Dreaming Of Sand, Surf And Fishing!

More often than not, my dreams at night are restful and relaxing. Usually they're replays of daydreaming visions I've had during the day. Most of my dreams are about fishing, the sand and the surf and drinks with little umbrellas in them. That could be because I spend a lot of time during the day either fishing or thinking about the one that got away!

From what I've read, it seems the more complicated your life is, the more chaotic your dreams at night will be.

When the final chapter in my life's story has been written and work on the screenplay for the movie begins, someone will be faced with the difficult assignment of deciding who will play me on the big screen. It won't be an easy task because it will take an actor of the first water to capture the true essence of me.

My life has had the same assortments of successes and failures, tears, both of joy and of sorrow, grand excitement and heart-rending disappointments as everyone else in this world.

Yesterday I listened to the happiest mockingbird in creation. Perched on a limb in a spring time maple tree, he cast a spell on his audience below. We listened to song after song until he wearied of all the applause and left the stage. In a few moments he came back for a curtain call and once again was greeted with applause.

Enchanted by the musical ability of this particular bird, I and a friend sat beneath the tree for a half hour and absorbed every note he sang.

My vacation is coming soon and the first thing I'm going to do when I get there is to send President George W. Bush a "Having A Great Time, Wish You Were Here!" card. I'll be fishing in the Gulf of Mexico soon and thanks to him, I can afford to do so a little longer than I'd planned. It just seems fair to thank him for giving me a few days more in the sun and surf, by sending him a card.

This year's Whistle-Stop Barbeque Festival was great fun. I love great barbeque and the many different grills and smokers on parade almost made me want to buy one and hit the barbeque circuit. Some were painted black, some all stainless steel and there was one that looked like a big egg on wheels that was painted blue.

One thing all these fantastic grills had in common was that the cooks all used either wood or charcoal to cook their meat! None of the sissy electric grills or gas grills was allowed at this competition.

I have a simple solution to life's problems, as far as my physical health is concerned. I don't worry about things I can't spell! This is a skill that is learned; you're not born with it. I have to credit TV with this ability to block out concerns over my health by simply ignoring anything that could show up on the National Spelling Bee.

I learned this technique from listening to television commercials.

To my slightly used brain it doesn't appear that there is any real sanity in the world today, much less in the hallways of our schools. Kids today are not really a lot different from the ones I knew back in my high school years, except they have a few more challenges than I did when I was a teen.

While we had alcohol, we didn't have to deal with it because we knew our parents would deal with us if they found that we were even in the presence of the devil's brew.

Anyone who has ever had a cat has questions about their behavior. I have quite a few that has influenced my behavior around him.

Why do cats have more energy at night? Waking up my cat Spike, especially in the evening when he's been asleep in his box in the garage, is not a very wise thing to do if you're planning on going to bed yourself.

I miss the animal events at county fairs, but as close as I get to one these days is by watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on TV. It's not quite the same, I guess I miss the smells. In today's technical world I guess I'll have to be satisfied with electronic dog shows.

The Westminster television show was a masterful production, timed to perfection with the announcer and play by play guy saying all sorts of exciting things like, "This Great Dane really knows how to connect with the crowd, doesn't he Charles?", as this huge dog gallops like a run-a-way train around the ring, dragging his handler behind him as the audience erupts in applause.

U.S. Highway 72 is an old route in north Alabama, stretching from Bridgeport, Tennessee to Memphis on the other side of the state. Over the years I've caught a lot of fish in streams and lakes near this road, where it meandered near the Tennessee River and the backwaters of one TVA dam or another. Sometimes I'd just stop the truck and fish from the side of the highway.
