Finding a counselor can be confusing and frustrating. You have to get through answering machines and then sort through issues like insurance and degrees and credentials that look like alphabet soup.

So, how SHOULD people select and find a counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist?

1. My first suggestion: Find a counselor, psychiatrist or psychologist who demonstrates concern for your peace of mind,not only in therapy but also where fees are concerned.
Many people who suffer depression often feel a loss of motivation and lethargy particularly first thing in the morning. This article will examine why this is so and can in itself be of some therapeutic value to a sufferer when they realize that it is not their fault that this type of impairment occurs.To many explaining this to them is like a light coming on for them.
A certain amount of irritability and agitation is normal. However, if you are continuously or chronically annoyed or irritable, you may have an undiagnosed anxiety or depressive disorder.

The good news is that you can reduce or overcome much of your agitation or grumpiness by learning and applying some proven coping skills. Scientifically proven relaxation techniques are the most helpful of these drug-free methods.
Sometimes, a physical problem or medication you are taking can cause symptoms that feel like depression, so the first step in getting an accurate diagnosis is to get a complete medical history and physical exam. Your physical will probably include an interview and lab tests in order to rule out any physical causes for your symptoms.

If no other cause is found, people with depressive symptoms often undergo psychological testing administered by a clinical psychologist.
A general determination that distinguishes adolescent depression challenges from mood disorders in older people is the higher level and more often occurring of social and interpersonal difficulties, resulting in the low self-esteem that defines adolescent mood disorders. And also, teenage kids are more susceptible to suicidal temptations accordingly to their depression.
The nightmare of mood swings among young people are a normal finding and are generally considered part of the 'normal' developmental process. However, studies in developmental psychology suggest that many young adults experiencing mood swings are actually suffering from youth depression.

While the identical cause of youth mental is open to question, some findings show that 5% of all adolescents suffer from mood disorders.
We have all experienced some level of depression in our lives. This is a normal reaction to various events that occur in life. Changes and losses often have the biggest impact on our lives when it comes to experiencing depression, however, physical illness, and other related issues can also result in this condition. If an individual experiences depression for an extended amount of time, this can become a very serious issue.
Unfortunately the World Health Organization has stated that depression is now going to be the 21st centuries second most growth illness just below heart disease linked to obesity. Most people these days know someone who has suffered or is till suffering from depression.

It is now one of the most common mental illnesses in society. However there remains many myths surrounding depression and as a psychotherapist in private practice and as an ex-psychiatric nurse I have come across this illness quite regularly.
How are smoking and depression connected? Is one the cause of the other? Science has shown that smokers are generally more prone towards depression than non smokers. How can employers combat this and help employees be as productive as they can be?

The scientific connection between nicotine addiction and depression has been well documented. A history of depression is a common link between many people suffering from nicotine addiction.
As a parent, you are likely to be one of the first to recognize when your child may have a serious emotional or behavioral problem. What do you do first? What if someone you consulted has recommended that your child be hospitalized in a psychiatric facility?

Before doing anything else, gently engage your child in a dialogue about his or her feelings.
